Disappearance

 I know, I know.... My posts have not been consistent.  Well, there's only one per week lately and I'll show you the reasons why:

 (Above) My paper cutout for class.  There's about 5 layers total.

This one here has consumed my entire life and it's STILL not done.  It's cut out of Arches printmaking paper.  I want to add more to it and maybe draw behind it.... I'll post pictures once it's all done.

Self Portrait

 This is my latest painting titled Self Portrait.  It's done with oil paints with modeling paste and strings.

 

Grace

 Ah, Grace.  How well you pull off pink eyeshadow since it matches with the tips of your hair.

This is my friend, Grace, who lives in the school's art building just like I do.  She asked me to do her make up for an art show opening that she was in. 
To start, I filled in her eyebrows and primed her eyes and lips.  I cannot stress how important eyebrows are to any face.  Just by filling them in, even if it's only a slight amount, that extra definition given to the arch can change one's face completely.  For the better, of course.
Since she was wearing a mix of ivory, black, pink, and a hint of purple I decided to take her eye makeup in that direction.  The color fans from pink, purple, ivory, and finally to green.

Her lips were kept nice and simple with just a sheer nude gloss that matched her skin tone.  Over top, I put some gloss that had that extra touch of glitter that pulled the whole look together.

Artist of my moment: Bovey Lee

My professor introduced me to the wonderful world of paper cutouts and I simply cannot get enough of them.  I've done a few projects using only paper cutouts and may I just say that I have so much respect for Bovey Lee.  She's a local artist who does her cutouts on rice paper.  The amount of detail she puts into her work is amazing.  On her site she writes the reasons why she loves doing them, and one is that she likes the feel of the super sharp blade cutting the paper- she understands my feelings exactly.

Art All Night

I will be showing my painting Burst in the Art All Night show in Lawrenceville on April 24-25.  It will be at the Iron City Brewery- 3340 Liberty Avenue.  It's 24 hours of art, which is always good.  Come check it out!
